Vitamin A
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that is stored in the
body as retinol, predominantly in the liver, but also in the
retina, kidneys, lungs, adrenal glands, and fat. Vitamin A
is required for growth and bone development, vision, reproduction,
and the integrity of mucosal and epithelial surfaces. It is
also important for immune function as it is required in maintaining
sufficient levels of natural killer cells, and may increase
the production of cytokines such as interleukin 1 (IL-1).
